Giuliano Ricciardi's TuttoTondo: Redefining Luxury Washbasins

Award-winning design combines marble and steel in a modular, customizable system

Giuliano Ricciardi's TuttoTondo, a luxury washbasin, reimagines the traditional bathroom fixture as a modular, customizable system. The design, which won the Silver A' Bathroom Furniture and Sanitary Ware Design Award in 2021, combines the elegance of marble with the high-tech appeal of steel, offering a multitude of configurations to suit any need.

Ricciardi's inspiration for TuttoTondo came from the observation that washbasins are usually placed next to a wall, to which various accessories are attached. With TuttoTondo, Ricciardi has freed the washbasin from the wall, recalling the historic image of the basin in a contemporary key, complete with accessories.

The unique properties of TuttoTondo lie in its modularity. The washbasin is made up of three modules for the column and an element for the washbasin itself. These components are joined together by steel ferrules, which not only ensure the tightness of the modules but also allow for the application of a variety of accessories, including mirrors, shelves, and containers. The modularity of the system allows the washbasin to be configured in a multitude of combinations to suit any need.

The realization of TuttoTondo involves the use of CNC for the marble and watercut for the steel. The design's technical specifications include a width of 450 mm, a depth of 450 mm, and a height of 850 mm. The washbasin is packaged in a wooden case for delivery.

According to Ricciardi, the biggest challenge in designing TuttoTondo was to maintain a minimal aesthetic while associating the simple shape of the washbasin with a very technical system of accessories. The division of the washbasin into blocks, thanks to current CNC processing technologies, allows for easier serial production and less waste of material.

In conclusion, TuttoTondo is a luxury monolithic washbasin that combines the refinement of marble with the hi-tech charm of steel. The concept comes from the desire to make the washbasin the fulcrum around which the bathroom takes shape, as the old bedroom washbasin. The system consists of marble elements joined together by steel ferrules. These can in turn accommodate a series of accessories of various types and sizes, such as mirrors, shelves, containers, which enrich the aesthetics and functionality of TuttoTondo, completing the concept and making it configurable according to the most different needs.
